Any Mining Engineers/students out there?

I'm looking to transfer into mining engineering. I pretty much fucked up my first year at university, so my grades are terrible and transferring directly is not an option. At this point, I could either go into a 1 year program at college, then transfer into 2nd year at a mining engineering university or go into a 2 year program at college and transfer into 3rd year at a mining engineering university.

1st Option: More theory and I come out with just a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering
2nd Option: More hands on experience and I come out with a Technology Diploma and a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering.

tl;dr Which would you reccomend sci?
