So, how much does the descend fuel cut the useful payload on these things?
Aren't rockets supposed to be ~80% fuel, just to take something to LEO?

How old are you?
Russia already was a superpower and Russian was a compulsory language in dozens of nations for half a century. I didn't uproot a single native language.
Hell Russia itself has like 150 different languages.
That's not how this shit works.

English is embedded into the global social fabric like no other language before it.

Few minutes back, I went outside for smokes and for a moment I've seen a bright flare in the night sky.
Wondering what did I see, I went and checked the tracker.
It was a Russian Cosmos 1720, a hunk of nothing 0.7m across, going about its business 1450km above me.

Something the size of a man reflected enough sunlight for me to notice it, right into my eye, from that kind of distance.
For some reason, it makes me happy.

Can we have a space thread?

Fundamentalism and Evangelism are seen as the norms here. Heck, we still have a beef with the Catholics even after all these years.
Bear in mind, each generation is instilled with a sense of fear of the unknown. Some of us don't even trust doctors or academia. The anti-intellectualism never truly went away here.

Just a quick board-culture related question, as I am new here.

Whats the most advisable course of action to take when you encounter one of the low-effort shitposts that litter this board?

More specifically the ones that are like:

>"only brainlets have to read textbooks"
>"anyone who doesnt study at All Souls College oxford is a failure, I know because I'm the best in the whole student body there"
>"when I was a kid I was put 10 years ahead because I was so smart, even though I didnt try"
>"if you havent studied exactly the same topics and subtopics as me you are human scum"
etc etc.

I probably see these posts on 4/5 threads here, and its kinda jarring. My home board, lit, doesnt have anything close to this level of persistent shitposting.

What am I supposed to do when I see these?

Terence McKenna said 'We are asked by science to believe that the entire universe sprang from nothingness, at a single point and for no discernible reason. This notion is the limit case for credulity. In other words, if you can believe this, you can believe anything." http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/6588851-the-ultimate-singularity-is-the-big-bang-which-physicists-believe
