So this means 1*1 = 2 = 1+1 and also most likely that 2*1 = 4 = 2+2

But it makes no sense because you don't add to itself, you add to zero
1*1 = 1 = 0+1
2*1 = 2 = 0+2

And due to his wording, it would then make sense that:
1*1 = 1+1 = 2
1*2 = 1+1+1 = 3
2*1 = 2+2 = 4
2*1 =/= 1*2
