Math student here ( not from US though ).

It's almost the opposite at my university, the more research a prof has done, the better teacher he is, so far there have been only 2 exceptions ( one of them couldn't teach for shit and was fired for not wanting to do doctoral studies and not doing any actual research, and the other constantly pumps out new papers but is terrible at teaching because she uses a fucking projector to read from her own book and not explain shit, maybe she thinks we are all retards and need everything spelled out). One of the best profs I ever had was the youngest student to obtain a phd at my university, got tons of rewards for beeing the best female scientist in the country and constantly does new research.

Hey /sci/ I'm considering switching my major to Geography. Maybe eventually teach high school/ english abroad. Work at a state park, or get into land/ resource management for a company/ government. I feel like Geography is a pretty interdisciplinary
