PREMISE:
>We all remember things, and we all forget things. We've all at one point or another shared a memory with a friend or family member, that you had upon them mentioning it, clearly forgotten, and you might even think it was gone from your mind entirely, until they had elaborated in more detail, until the whole thing became so clear in your mind, you don't know how you could have forgotten it, and so clearly it wasn't gone from your mind entirely.
>Infact perhaps it wasn't gone from your mind at all. It was only gone from the immediate access parts of your brain, and when your friend elaborate on the memory, they helped reconfigure your brain to track down this memory.

CONCLUSION:
>There must be some way to make someone flip through a book at about 30 pages per second, and then configure a person's brain to refer to each individual page as though it were still before him.

How do we do it, /sci/?

I took 25mg of doxylamine succinate for the first time last night as my sleep schedule has been off for a few weeks now. Today I felt completely messed up. My memory was poor and I couldn't think straight or concentrate, worse than even sleep deprivation. It's been hours now and I still feel the same. Is there anything I can do to get this bullshit out of my system. Thank you /sci/.

I have to give a 9-14 min oral presentation on a topic of my choice, it is a informative presentation, due next Tuesday. I've already informed my professor my topic is how the Human brain works, although my knowledge on this subject might not be adequate. could you possibly link me to resources i could study from? i don't trust the request board enough for this matter.

Continued.

>And how much?

This is a little trickier. Each neuron typically releases the same amount of neurotransmitter per signal, but different neurons may have adapted to release more or less, depending on your genetics and your experiences in life.

Drugs work the way they do because they force your neurons to release unusually large amounts of neurotransmitter, or they prevent your neurons from taking it back in again (so the neurotransmitter sticks around in the synaptic gap, activating the next neuron repeatedly), or they prevent your neurons from releasing as much neurotransmitter. When you feel particularly strong sensations, like intense pain, your neurons are firing more frequently, flooding the gaps between your neurons with more neurotransmitter and activating them repeatedly.

>I assume your experiences shape this, but how?

Neurons, and even entire neuron pathways, that are not used are cut down. A lot of this happens during childhood. You can also obviously kill brain cells by abusing them with drugs, but a lot of loss just occurs because you don't need the extra neurons. This is a good thing.

Rejoice, folks, only the easy problem exists.
"The hard problem of consciousness" is actually "the hard problem of reconciling your religious feelings with the fact that all you are is a thinking organ"

I've been told that the human brain's memory storage system is impeccable, but its retrieval system is terrible. How can I improve my brain's meory retrieval system?

I mean in general, not specific memory recall like the Roman Room method nor the impossible task of developing an eidetic memory.

>We already did. We defined it to mean the IQ score.

I'm not even going to address the other things in your post. Who is "we" here? I have literally never met anyone with even a bachelor's degree in psychology or neuroscience who would agree with this.

I was curious because you reason like a physics and maths major. You are extremely trusting of quantitative measurements, but since you're not very involved in the field of psychology, I don't think you understand how difficult it is to find anything quantitative about the mind.

If our brain comes programmed with physical things such as senses, why don't we know everything about them? This isn't just about senses, but everything that applies to our brain.

Basically, our brain comes with all this crazy stuff, but why do we have to learn about it? Why isn't the knowledge already there?

Sorry if this question is a bit hazy, it's somewhat mind boggling.

Hey /sci/,
Do you guys have any advice for someone with a neuro/bio bachelors trying to get work?

I dont have any research experience, but I did earn my degree from a reputable school. It's been proving pretty hard to find a job since I've graduated. I'm thinking I should be able to get a research assistant entry level position. Any tips?

Intelligence-based discrimination is a form of social injustice deeply entrenched in the modern society and impacting people's lives every day. Intelligence discrimination should be addressed the same way as race, gender or age discrimination and legislation shoulbe be enacted to ban unfair treatment because of intelligence, or preception of intelligence. Affirmative actions for disadvantaged people due to low intelligence are badly needed.

Therefore, we demand laws to ban discrimination based on IQ, perceived IQ or similar measures. We call on governments to implement policies prohibiting preferential treatments for people with high achievements or IQs. (Perceived) Intelligence should not be a factor in job application, scholarship application or school admission. Fools should not be afraid that showing their foolishness may have negative consequences.

We also calls for affirmative actions for fools. Foolish children should receive more lecture time from teachers. Test scores should be normalized against students' IQ. Fools should receive more relaxed standards for job performance, for example, more time to complete a task than that given to a "smart" person. Fools should receive more training from employers. Fools should not receive lower salaries than smart people. We call for government agencies to enforce these regulations and to accept complains from fools for intelligence discrimination.

No, but seriously, why can't people discriminate on something useful? How about ability based discrimination, or contribution based discrimination? These things would all be acceptable in my book, and people SHOULD discriminate on these things.

Hurr durr skin color etc. It doesn't matter whether a cat is white or black, or purple, as long as it catches mice it is a good cat.

Greetings, /Sci/
Does any anon out there know a decent book with information on the structure and function of different parts of the brain, that is available to download?

Also, If anyone had anything on Neuropsychology it would be much appreciated.

So, are mental illnesses real? As far as I can see, they have no scientific basis, and those that do unsurprisingly become known as neurological illnesses. Additionally, diagnosis has no testing beyond "behavior symptoms". What do you think?

Do people with higher intelligence use more energy "powering" their brains than those who are less intelligent? And if so, does this energy difference have a significant effect on total energy usage?

How long till science figures out the brain, and i can stop hearing retarded comments from social "science" majors like "science cant explain how people interact"
