Yeah the Nimitz class is 45 years old now, so with class lifespans generally lasting 50-60 years they're getting up there for capital ships. It's good to start phasing them out a bit before they actually start to hit the wall, forces manufacturers and congress to actually commit to replacing them and it gives us some extra time to iron out the technological kinks before they actually have to hit the field and stand alone.
