>you're like a toddler who wandered into a college lecture

more like an engineer using the colloquial term you'd hear from production workers who are curious about the translucent amber prototype parts one is installing at their station.

Atomic assembly has yet to be demonstrated. I've mentioned several times that if perfected, it will be a game changer.

Regardless, welcome to the conversation present and future consumer grade machines, which started with the mention that "they aren't replicators", and challenges of "...yet"

Different anon here, though my situation is almost exactly the same as OPs. Halfway through Bio B.S., etc.

I'm interested in studying and researching pathogen spread in human populations. Pandemics, viruses, that kind of stuff. With a B.S. in biology, what's the best way to do that?

>howsabout you just plainly write out the possibilities for each square, is that so unacceptable?

The digits 1-9 can be replaced by any 9 unique symbols, and nothing will change. The only significant thing is that each distinct symbol occurs exactly once in each row/column/square. It makes sense, therefore, to replace the digits by whatever scheme makes it easiest to see what's going on. Using dots is faster than drawing/erasing shittons of tiny numerals and making sure they're legible, plus it's easier to detect patterns and groupings when it's arranged in a grid like that.

>you are doing yourself a great disservice and you are not furthering knowledge, you are muddling it with unnecessary, ancillary data that takes more time and doesn't assist in actually solving the puzzle.

Lol so what were you looking for? Some /sci/ genius to come along and give you a big equation to solve sudokus with? A sudoku is just some stupid puzzle made up by some japanese guy. There's no reason to expect there to be some elegant and foolproof method to do them.

Also, every bit of information signified by one of those dots is necessary.

>no offense. i have the utmost respect for this board, but your responses only serve to reinforce the notion that there is no better way to solve these puzzles than you map the possibilities and condense until you are left with a single option.

The straightforward, easy to apply, (almost) guaranteed-to-work method is always better than relying on clever tricks and tactics that only work in certain situations. Many people have watched me do sudokus and thought my way was slow and too much work, but I ALWAYS kicked their ass when I challenged them to a race.
