Problem:
If <span class="math">A
is any set of real numbers, define a function <span class="math">C_A
as follows:
<div class="math">C_A (x) = \left\{
\begin{array}{ll}
1 & \quad x \in A \\
0 & \quad x \notin A
\end{array}
\right</div>

I have to find expressions for <span class="math">C_{A \cap B}
, <span class="math">C_{A \cup B}
, and <span class="math">C_{R-A}
, where <span class="math">R-A
signifies the set of all real numbers, but with every element of set <span class="math">A
taken out. When I say <span class="math">R
, I mean the set of all real numbers, but I don't know how to do that in TeX.

I already figured out that <span class="math">C_{A \cap B} = C_{A}C_{B}
and that <span class="math">C_{A \cup B}
can be represented as <span class="math">\frac{C_{A}-C_{B}}{2-|C_{A}-C_{B}|}
, but I still don't know how to represent <span class="math">C_{R-A}
in terms of <span class="math">C_A
and <span class="math">C_R
. Any help?

Also, I apologize if any of my TeX is broken, I really need to get some type of TeX parser/preview tool.

Pic related; some lame science jokes for your viewing pleasure/in return.

Looking for the story of a advanced alien race wiping us out, then regretting it right before it happens due to them realizing we advanced out of the primal age they feared us to be. Basically, a /x/sci/ hybrid creepy pasta. Delivering said pasta will make me post your choice of preference.

Todays menu offers are:

Evenin' /sci/

I'm a physiology undergraduate about to start my second year, but this time something will be different.

Shit needs to get done: essays are gonna get planned and lab notes are to be meticulous works of art (may even try to get some extra lab time in for the sake of an extra nice reference from the personal tutor). All lectures will be attended and notes will be made and reviewed, highlighted with all the colours of the rainbow. A study group may be created if times get hard.

And you, /sci/? What're your resolutions this year?
