>Especially since going out for a swim could result in me being crushed to death

...It wouldn't, though. These have no airlock. They are not at surface pressure, they are at the same pressure as the outside water and they are open to water at all times via an open hatch in the floor called a moon pool. You can dive out and re-enter freely.

>How do you get between the buildings?

You pop one of these in your mouth (see pic) and swim.

>Mad scientist are you taking down a scuba tank for the first journey just in case?

Yes, a tiny one good for 57 breaths.

>>Would it be too much of a hassle to bring some emergency scuba gear down with you? just in case

Sure, one of these (pic related). Won't really need it because it's only 26 feet of water, I can just swim up, but it's a good idea to have this along so I will.

>>How will the helmet remain centered and on your shoulders?

It's cut to fit the contours of my shoulders and chest/back, then padded around the rim.

>>Also has it occurred to you that a plastic bucket is far from perfectly transparent it's rather opaque.

Uh yeah. I plan to buy a clear plastic one. Or a water cooler jug. Or an aquarium. Anything transparent, plastic and large enough to fit over my head will work.
