We'll come up with an AGI system, but not a conscious system first. I think we'll probably take around 10 years for real useful general intelligence.

Along that path, we'll come across consciousness, as we throw massive compute at some architectures that show promise. We'll come across a rapid acceleration in development & research as it becomes apparent that the first people to improve it will become the rulers of the world.

The only thing that has remained constant in humanity's lifespan has it's unwavering advancement to improving technology. It's only a matter of time.

There's someone with the turing award who is on facebook's payroll that has a paper out what he thinks a generally intelligent system would look like. We're going to get there.
