What causes seasons? Like, who invented them?

I have a question, /sci/. It's about evolution. Can you help me, /sci/?

I was wondering, can an organism/species evolve at random (Ex. Humans getting hightened senses, naturally stronger, etc), or does evolution only happen when an organism/species needs to adapt to something?

Forgive me if this sounds like homework or something, it's not. I'm just not very knowledgeable in the area of evolution. Also, you guys explain shit better than google.
