Speaking of abandoned ISS concepts, do you think the Crew Return Vehicle would have been able to serve a a general crew transport vehicle had it been developed? NASA could have potentially had a Shuttle replacement pretty much to moment the Shuttle was retired

Frankly if Starship is only making its first orbital flight in 2024 I'll be happy. To have an actual interplanetary spacecraft in active development is a blessing. Not to mention reusable to boot. The early 2000's to early 2010's was such a miserable time for space exploration

>But if /sfg/ had been around in 1970 we all would have absolutely been shuttle huggers, starry-eyed with visions of 60 launches per year.
oh god i can imagine the hype threads for enterprise's captive flights. imagine being around back then honestly believing every nasa press release because you had nothing else to compare to

More like the old established NASA bureaucracy didn't want anything to challenge the Shuttle so shot down any attempts. Remember that the upper crust(Not the actual designers and engineers) of NASA is no different than any government bureaucracy and wants to keep the pork flowing in a consistent manner
