As a proto storyteller I believe it will considerably restrict your possibility and don't make your characters more interesting. Any "son/daughter of" will become plot-armor carrier unless you are willing to kill them and introduce new characters.
Meanwhile there's only so much you can tell about one character because you grow bored of him or need to make him go insane to spice it up.

I've seen it attempted in Red Mars trilogy. That was a weak point.
