So why doesn't this work?
[math]
i^2 = -1 = (-i)^2
[/math]
So
[math]
\sqrt{-1} = \sqrt{i^2} = i
[/math]
and
[math]
\sqrt{-1} = \sqrt{(-i)^2} = -i
[/math]
Hence
[math]
i = -i
[/math]
