call me what you like, but I prefer to be led by people who have some idea what they're doing. also, the whole "calling for violence against political opponents" and "egotistically lying about the pettiest of things" things are kind of a turn-off.

but isn't it telling that your only defense of Orange Daddy is to try and change the subject to someone else? you (on some level) know how thoroughly incompetent he is, so you immediately try to distract from the embarrassment of his tenure by asserting (without evidence, naturally) that the counterfactual scenario would have been even worse.

the failure of the mainstream establishment is that it wasn't able to stop the anti-intellectual fringe from breaking everything. if you look back at the past 30 years or so, the mainstream establishment has actually done a pretty good job.
and yes, you are a brainlet if you think that governance should only make use of things simple enough for the Average Joe to understand. worse, you're an insecure brainlet; you're terrified of the idea that someone might be superior to you.

this is what drives me up the fucking wall about my fellow lefties. these kinds of diversity initiatives don't fucking work because:
a) they're trying to fix wrongful discrimination by using wrongful discrimination, not working towards an actual meritocracy,
b) if white cis men who favor equality leave positions of power, all it means is that white cis men who oppose equality will be comparatively enriched in the upper echelons, and
c) it doesn't address the underlying problem of women and minorities being discouraged AS GRADE SCHOOLERS from pursuing careers in STEM.

want to make academia more diverse? excellent! here's how you do it:
>decouple school funding from local property taxes, so growing up in a poor neighborhood doesn't condemn you do having a shitty education
>fund inclusive initiatives to get kids involved and interested in science; after-school tutoring, school clubs, and school visits from professionals are all good ways to go. focus on the message that science and math are for EVERYONE
>shit, just send more money to schools in general
>train hiring committee members on combating implicit bias. everyone's got it, but it only becomes a problem if we're unaware of it and let it tilt our actions
the answer to women and minorities being underrepresented in academia isn't to lower the standards for them, but rather to give them the same shot as white men have. instead of excusing people who were set up to fail, let's stop setting them up to fail. this is the kind of "soft racism of low expectations" shit that GWB talked about. gotta think of future generations here.
but there are people on the left who think that everything can be fixed overnight if we just kick out the white men and replace them with women of color. and that's unrealistic, unethical, and fuckstupid.
