Since technology is increasing in complexity at an exponential rate, how is human intelligence going to keep pace in order to keep that technology safe and under control?

Imagine nothing. To aid in visualization close your eyes, eliminating all physicality or "somethingness," and simply attempt to imagine nothing. Like most your mind's eye will picture blackness. And you may confuse this as nothing but blackness is still something: a concept representing the absence of somethingness. It's impossible for the human mind to perceive nothing, and because existence is limited to what our minds can perceive, it's entirely impossible to not exist at least on some level. Therefore, mind or consciousness survives death rather than does it succumb to non-existence.
