If we can dissect Life down to its essential building blocks, then why haven't we figured how to create it yet? Why is the origin of life still a mystery?

Probabilities are trash. The probability that a single cell organism turns into a fish turns into a monkey turns into a fighter pilot is ridiculous.

Kinda like these fuckers but with legs, they can take a centaur like stance and the have neither armor nor eyes.

These things gave me nightmares when I was a kid.

Last night I went to a beach party and converted loads of people to science. Had a big group around me hanging off my every word. Even the spiritual hippy changed from being a science-hater. Some chick even said "oh I love math!" (fuck that was hot)

science, fuck yeah. inspiring wonder and awesomeness.

We share a very distant ancestor before reptiles and after amphibians with birds. Social behaviour evolved many times separately. Intelligence arose many times in those animals. Empathy evolved at least twice.

No one can argue intelligence isn't a straight shot from complex life. And intelligent aliens would most likely be empathetic and kind.

There's some gorgeous life in prehistory, and it's worthy of talking about. Got a favourite species? Favourite era in history? Anything evocative that brings up that primordial feeling one gets when pondering that ancient past like a forest or piece of music or a picture?

If you look back at early Earth life, it was more diverse then now in terms of designs and the shape of life. They were built of exotic shapes they we can only imagine. imagine of some of these life forms and species had made it to land and evolved... land animals might be looking very different today.

of course 99.99% of all these lines died out, but it still boggles the mind at what could have been.
