>pretending to be Scientist
VSauce really doesn't. The guy cites his studies and talks up people who know more than he does. It's Veritasium that's douchey for talking down to people who know less.

It's not a smart people board; it's an interest board. If you feel inclined toward cooking, you go to /ck/, and if you're interested in technology, try /g/. This board is the science and math board, not the smart people board. People come here because they're interested in the topics, not necessarily because they know everything about them. Questions are asked, relevant news topics are discussed, arguments spark up, people are corrected, and students in the relevant disciplines are common here. Most of the people here are undergrads, so it's hardly the place for career-level discussion.

I mean, even when there is a talk about career paths, it's always done in generalities like total demand for this particular major and the field's growth rate instead of in specifics like how many entry-level jobs are listed on job sites like Monster and Indeed. They're not actually looking at jobs because they're not there yet. They will be, though, so don't lose faith. Just because career paths aren't the hot topic of discussion here on /sci/, it doesn't mean it isn't happening.

As for the antler measuring when it comes to cursory metrics like IQ and familiarity with obscure mathematical concepts, most of these people will grow out of the arrogance they pull from it. Hopefully.

Akira authorized every board to have its own meta thread as to review what seems to be wrong and what needs to be changed.

Without further ado I guess I should list one thing that is commonly agreed among some of the true /sci/ posters and/or ''oldfags'':

>Since the election, /pol/ has shown dedication into spreading their anti-scientific beliefs and other pseudo science (flat earth, IQ, race bait, etc). As a result, this board has turned into a /pol/-proxy where most of the discussions have either nothing to do with science/math or are simply threads about politics.

In response the mods have proven to be ineffective, to the point that sometimes it seems as if they were allowing it.

What should be done about this?

Say you have 15 years of 40 hrs a week dedicated to mathematics learning. You need to go from only knowing basic arithmetic to completely understanding inter-universal teichmüller theory, in and out.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-universal_Teichm%C3%BCller_theory

Is it possible? If not, how long would it take? Is IUT the most complex concept in math?
I should add that you are of average intelligence.

OP here sci.

I have a question.

Am I trying to show off to the others? Is it correct to try to give a class properly? Or am I trying to inflate my own ego?

I honestly don't care much about the topics. I couldnt care less about aerodynamics but I have to do the presentation. Why not do it right?

But a part of me says that I just want to do it right so I can get some sort of ego boost in front of the others for memorizing trivial stuff about the topics and some maths I probably don't even fully understand.

How do I deal with this?

Many times whenever I learn something in school, watch a certain video, have a conversation, read something, etc., those memories will be associated with some place I've been (or sometimes I will unknowingly mentally fabricate some location and scenery which has great detail). For instance, a unit we learned in physics at school has been associated with a very specific place in a neighborhood, overlooking a lake. Whenever I remember the formulas and stuff we'd use, I envision them over that specific scene. Whenever I remember things we've learned in my psychology class, I see another very specific scene such as the place I used to go to recess in middle school. My memories of a lesson in math are connected to a path I used to take to get to my friends house. These memories I have are associated with unrelated, and random it seems, locations/places I've been. The locations associated with these memories are unchanging and I always recall them exactly the same. It isn't always school lessons that have this strage association with a specific location, but it may be as simple as a conversation I've had, a video I've watched, or even just something I've done that day. These locations that random memories are associated with are totally unrelated so I have no idea why when I recall memories, they have a specific place and scene tied to them. Is this some sort of synesthesia? I also have a form of synesthesia called ordinal linguistic personification if that changes anything but I've never heard of a form that seems similar to what I'm describing.
