This is all very amusing, and I can understand your frustration OP, but you need to consider why people believe some things, specifically religion. Many people believe in a loving God that watches out for them because it makes them feel good. They get comfort out of supernatural things, where they may not get the same emotional support in science. there is also the community aspect of being part of a particular faith. Maybe you should alter your approach to how you deal with these people, instead of just saying "things work by [insert facts here]" and calling them stupid if they don't accept it. Appeal to their human side.
