The entire process of dying and death is both terrifying as well as very interesting.
Is actual scientific research in this field possible and done?
The thought that all the information stored in the brain simply vanishes strikes me as odd. Basically, if you forget something/have a black out you were there but have no recollection of it. Losing all the information stored in ones brain currently upon death would basically be equal to a blackout, which would be odd because memories and the now are experienced and usually remembered.
Also, losing a sense of passage of time just seems odd. When falling asleep it is already rather terrifying how one can simply skip ahead minutes to hours. Skipping ahead the entire existence of the universe and then some to an unknown end is even more horrifying.
