I know FTL is technically impossible but arguably, what is the most “viable” method of FTL? Legitimately curious.
In the event that FTL is impossible, how would one make a “galactic empire” without the ability to travel fast between stars.
At relativistic speeds, a trip to Proxima is 4 years. And to the center of the galaxy, 20,000+ years.
How would you incorporate intelligent alien races in a world without FTL? Would a multi-species council still be possible?

How would spaceflight develop to am alien civilization? Would their rocketry basically undergo convergent evolution with ours?
