I just got accepted into a European uni on par with American Ivy League in terms of international rankings for Electromechanical Engineering.

However, I have started to realize over these few months that if I actually want to make big bucks, I need to go into software/web development and preferably move to the USA. Not stay in the UK and get an engineering job.

Will my ElectoMech degree still be good so long as I do programming on the side or should I try to switch to Computer Science or Software Engineering during my first year?

Man these threads are always depressing.

EE here, I would love to go into pure physics and do research, but in the end whats the point if I can never land a job in academia, and If I'm going in to industry I might as well get a more applicable degree and try to get my feet wet sooner instead of wasting a decade in grad school and post docs.

Kind sometimes feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Following a career in physics is like hoping to win the lottery, but I don't want to spend 40 years in a field I'm not terribly interested in, sure I'd rather do it than being accountant or even something like a lawyer but in the end its just for the money mostly.

Hell if I'm going to sell my soul for money might as well just start switching to math and go into some type of finance.
