Ive been thinking about the Fermi paradox. What need would a civilization have to travel around the universe from a psychological standpoint? Look at humans, most of us just want to stay alive and have sex. I understand one might need to for raw resources but they wouldn't have to travel far. They might not even have to leave their solar system. What im saying is what would they get out of it from a psychologically? Wouldn't dealing with the vastness of the universe contribute the forms of nihilism and thus bring into question the point of cataloging and exploring anything? Im not talking about the "it doesn't put food on the table argument".

If you had and FTL drive and could instantly teleport anywhere in the universe. Wouldn't it seem a little overwhelming to explore it? Why not just play video games or have sex instead? Whatever world you come from your probably fine tuned to that environment. Why deal with a universe thats hostile and almost incomprehensible?

What's your favorite possible resolution to the Fermi Paradox?

This is what OP is getting at. Pretty much.
