Hello /sci/ newfag here. Looking to buy a telescope for stargazing. I'm a beginner and would like to spend about $200 for a telescope I can use for a good while before having to upgrade to a more advance one. Any suggestions ?

Hey, /sci/ . I'm not sure if this is a good place for Astronomy but it's science-related (and /out/ told me I should ask here too).

I really want to buy a beginner's telescope to view the moon in detail, look for comets when they come close, planets, constellations etc. I read a few articles on focal length, aperture and such and I found this one which is both decently priced and fits good beginner specs: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000XMT5G/skymaps

I want to hear any tips or advice on buying a telescope and what you can be expected to see and how well you could see it.

General Astronomy thread too, I guess!

>Me: Oh, just stargazing because it's a clear night.
>Girl: Oh sweet I love astrology too.
