I'd prefer slightly more land than water as Mars is a smaller planet and all. There seems to be a nice division between the Northern and Southern hemisphere in height.

Mars is a desert because it has too thin of an atmosphere to sustain liquid water on its surface or retain heat. We know that Mars has massive amounts of frozen gases such as carbon dioxide frozen into the polar soils. All we have to do is give it a nudge in the right direction, and we could transform it into a lush garden world.

We will become gods. The creators of worlds.

Yes!
We can make it warmer than Earth if we want.

I partially support him, but for the purpose of getting off this planet so we spread onto most of the other planets and moons so that hippy shit like living your life in a forest is far more sustainable without removing opportunities for others.

You would need molecular mills/assemblers and lots of droids to construct a entire planetary sunshade which filters the majority of the solar radiation out. Collide comets from the Kuiper Belt in the two holes of the shield (polar holes) for water. Unless we have some way of speeding up Mercury's rotation without brute force, we could always have artificially created day and night, where the sunshade can stop all opacity on the sunside and then use some large successor of the marijuana grow light on the nightside. There'd definitely be enough solar power for that.

In the early days of /sci/ we would've had loads of people interested in an intelligent conversation about Mars.

What's the near-future possibility of colonization on the Planet Mars?
What can we do about its atmosphere? Can we melt the polar caps to release oxygen? Can we create giant greenhouses for plant production and a vent to do the exchange of gas? What's our biggest concerns in terms of the fundamental laws of nature on mars?

2060 - Phobos undergoes detonations along key points to split into smaller kilometer-sized asteroids. Bombardment commences on North and South Martian poles. Debris shoots into space and then rains down across all of Mars, burning in it's thin atmosphere. Air pressure begins to rise, lakes and seas form over the course of a few months.

2080 - Asteroids from the asteroid belt are launched off to bombard Venus, causing much of the CO2 to be ejected. Kuiper Belt objects made primarily from ice are shielded lightly from the solar wind and then sent on their decade-long journey to Venus. Some lakes form, but begin to evaporate. Mining and construction droids in orbit above Venus begin cannibalizing leftover asteroids for materials to build a almost-completely enclosing shield, which tints to prevent most of the brunt of the solar wind and radiation from reaching Venus. Temperatures begin to lower, and Venus eventually starts getting lakes and seas.

Awwwhhh yeahhh the space program will be awesome.
