I would bet big on SpaceX being the first to land humans on Mars. Simply because they have proven they can build the most capable rockets that are currently flying (nothing is as cheap per kg as a Falcon 9, and nothing flying is as powerful as a Falcon Heavy), and because they are actively developing the exact sort of rocket you would need to land on Mars. And it isn't just the rocket they are working on, but a full production line to crank Starships out at a rate comparable to airliners. Plus Starlink is going well; most profit estimates for it mean Ol'Musky will have plenty of cash flow to build & launch dozens of these at Mars every Synod.
