Disaster movies tend to go for Washington DC. That is as far away from SF you can come (in their limited world). Inbound asteroids seem to come with cross hairs firmly fixed on DC. Japanese movies tend to have it in for Tokyo, or Neo Tokyo as the case often may be. Akira had the city blown up twice but other movies might have topped that. At least DC can be saved by manly men walking in slo mo acorss the screen.
