Did you read The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil ? The risks he describes are very real and could very well destroy all life very fast. It is important to think about these risks to ensure a positive and ethical progress. You should take those perils seriously.

The main problem I have with the technological singularity is that it doesn't describe anything that hasn't happened numerous times in history. All the singularity really amounts to is: In the future, mankind will invent some technology that will completely change society.

How is this any different from the invention of the internet? Or the printing press? Or the written word?

My perfect world is not set within this century, or within this millenia even.
My vision of a perfet future for humanity is a state, where every individual human has almost godlike powers through science and technology, free to roam acros the cosmos and shape it to their will.
A future, where the descendants of humanity rule the universe unquestionably, and where each individual is a god. The survival of our race would be guaranteed and our mastery of the universe would allow us to fulfill our wildest dreams.
The universe would submit to our divine will.

This is ofcourse thousands, perphehaps even milions of years in to the future.
