>Switching major, going to grad school or just interested?
Because why not?
I think is interesting, but the physics I've been exposed is vague as fuck.
Physicists go like: you have this and that, then imagine this and presto, you have this formula!

So here are the rules:

Poorly describe your area of study, preferably in an amusing way, and other Anons try to guess. Try to be specific in your choice of area (use "computational microbiology" instead of just "biology").

I'll start:
>obs and homs
>tfw no good resources
>tfw no professors at my uni to talk to
>you need a lemma

Where do I go to learn maths for (theoretical) physics from the bottom? I mean set theory, topology etc.

Preferably with lots of exercises.

Of course it involves "grindwork", but for me at least, it's a lot of fun and I would do it all over again. Anyways, you don't like learning from books, I get it, but that's off topic. I like learning from books and I'm not autistic.

Maybe you still have some books that were very useful to you in life, that you would recommend to your "new self"? This thread is made for people to find out what books mattered most for them, and to share them here, textbooks and non-textbooks alike. It's better to find good books this way, then to ask for "the best book" and invite people to post meme-textbooks and literally classics.

Its not exactly maths but Ive fallen in love with quantum mechanics. Before I started I was really put off by pop-sci faggots making all kinds of wild, vague claims without actually backing them up, but I found it actually ridiculously beautiful, well defined theory; very abstract yet it describes the world so well. Mathematically its also gorgeous combining all kinds of different mathematics and the philosophical aspect of it is also very interesting

tl;dr: pic related

Hey, /sci/, I'm thinking of studying Maths as an Undergraduate course and I've been looking for advice and just things that'd get me to generally know more about maths. Sadly, I've ran into a bit of a problem and was hoping /sci/ would help.

It seems that reading about maths online is like browsing Wikipedia, you'll start on something sensible and human like 'Solving Cubic Equations' and then you'll end up on 'Quaternions', worse still, being someone who's barely educated to College level (and still going through a course for mature students), you end up in situations where the only way to be able to read the notation about a subject you want to learn more about would be to already known most of the subject. I've got to the point where I spend most of my time just reading Ian Stewart (From Here to Infinity has been pretty good so far :) ) and just generally wondering what century I'm mentally stuck in.

tl;dr, for someone who's trying to learn maths, how would /sci/ recommend doing it? So far I've been just reading things that are barely above layman's terms and am almost at the point of getting a timeline of maths and then trying to figure out what century I'm stuck in so I can chronologically work my way out of it :( .

Hello /sci/, Britfag here that currently banks with nationwide.
Currently all I have is what I believe is known as an instant access account. It doesn't let me do transactions over the internet and doesn't allow me to use my card at shops.
I'm looking from a bank account that does both of those things, and that would be suitable to be associated with student loans, university etc.
As far as my research has told me, these are called current accounts.
I was just wondering if /sci/ has any knowledge/advice on different bank account types or which bank or building society to go with.
Thanks.
