Tether research shows great promise but seems to be getting ignored in today's space science field, not surprising. Space tethers have potential to generate electricity in space, aid in generating spin gravity on space stations, and they can even be used as a propulsion device akin to a sail. Electrodynamic Tethers have some advantages over a photon based solar sail when in deep space. This is not "orbital infrastructure" but we see how our open source model will aide others in their projects and how it all builds off each other to make us a space faring race. Space tether physics is complex and I will need to do a great deal more digging. Any space tether experts are free to speak up.

Lastly I did some research into anons link for FTC Anticompetitive Practices law. I was aware of this, it is very general, and I have zero faith in the US Government, it's courts, or being treated fairly no matter what the law says. I think it would be foolish to count on Elon Musk and Space X to aide OSOIC in any of our projects. There have been little or no court cases for such issues and we don't want to spin our wheels in courts while our efforts could be better utilized elsewhere. However this has pointed out the need for a deeper review into the legal side of this whole project to include the Outer Space Treaty and all applicable documents. The law of "might makes right" will likely have a great deal of influence on the matter as there are no cops in space.
