I first heard of them when I saw a thread on /b/ in 2010 or 2011, not sure. There was a leaked video of a failed grasshopper test, and everyone was just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototype. But not much later after that, they released a successful grasshopper hop video, and that's what did it for me. It's when I knew that if SpaceX doesn't go bankrupt, they will eventually make a landing rocket. I've been following their progress ever since, watched as mush of the streams as I could live, and those I couldn't - on the next day. I saw the Falcon 9 mature, the ITS/BFR/Starship presentations made me really optimistic in times that were hard for me. Then the mad lad started welding scraps in a field, /sfg/ was born, and everyone is just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototypes.
