Is the American education system behind the rest of the world in terms of level of math, at any given age? Not saying that the higher learning institutions have anything to do with this, but I have watched some Harvard and MIT math lectures online of several different second and third year courses which are focused on material I learnt in my first year in university.

IE, what was the "highest" level of maths given by standard high school in America? Are kids in America of any given age at a disadvantage to their international peers?
