That's a poor image to see the horsehead shape
Look at this one. It looks kinda like a chess knight.

I love this picture!

It's fascinating how our brains recognize patterns.
However, it's equally tragic how we impose them where they are not.

Srs Question, OP.

I've always been puzzled as to how astronomers know how large and far away objects are because brightness could depend on proximity or size. In the case of stars I could see astronomers using gravitational models to figure out how massive something is and then extrapolating from there, but for smaller objects (such as asteroids) what is the method used to differentiate between close or large objects?

Pic unrelated, yet awesome.

1. We are clearly more intelligence than the star. Though to be fair, we should compete in an intelligence contest to determine who is more intelligence. Let's pray it's not a spelling or grammar contest.
2.(Read in the voice of William Shatner) Yes, the star, lights form of, ... , "sperm". It is largely self-evident the stars wish, to, engage in, "combat", as they are, constantly, dousing, us, with, their, "sperm". We'll show them, what, for.
3. Yes, the earth is an egg, like that in a woman. In fact the egg used to be in a woman who was (of course) much larger than the earth. It was your mother. All of the stars in the sky, despite them not has more intelligence, know that this egg was once in your mother and they remember your mother fondly, that's why they constantly shower us with their "sperm".
4. Not a chance-An inevitable outcome. We have challenged them to a contest of intelligence, they shall answer the call and the ultimate battles of spelling and grammar shall commence. There's no way this battle could take place unless they came down to engage us, so yes a star will hit the earth.
