Prima facie that can't be true. We have a much greater variance in intelligence than neurotypicals. For example, measured IQ in aspie groups has a standard deviation that is over 25 points (compared to around 15 points for 'normal' people).
Since most genes that influence IQ have an additive effect (this is in fact true of polygenic traits in general, not just intelligence), were autism caused by a loss of function of genes that influence intelligence, you would expect people with autism to have a smaller variance in IQ.
