How so?! India has the most caustic culture on the entire planet, even surpassing China. People are born into a caste and nothing they do changes that. If you're born to the "untouchable" caste, you can't hold a job, own anything, speak to anyone who isn't untouchable, or live in a permanent residence. Nothing you ever do will change that. If a higher caste person marries a lower caste person, they kill the woman, whether she was the higher or lower caste, out of honor. Fewer than half of Indians use a toilet, choosing to poop on the street even when they have enough money to afford plumbing, and they have one of the most polluted countries on the planet. 80s seems high to me.
