So /sci/, do you read maths articles? I've been looking for Sums of Reciprocals of Integers Missing a Given Digit by Baillie for a while since jstor.org took it off, but I'm pretty tired of their bullshit. Any place that's better to look for them?

I am taking antibiotics that I've just noticed expired this month.

Are they going to do any harm or will they have lost their effectiveness?

Fun fact: The net energy of the universe is zero. Also, the net charge of the universe is neutral.

What interesting observations have you made with mathematics, /sci/?

For example, for 9 multiplied by x, the answer's first digit is x - 1, and its second digit is 10 - x.

9 x 3 = 27. 3 - 1 = 2, 10 - 3 = 7. 27.
9 x 6 = 54. 6 - 1 = 5, 10 - 6 = 4. 54.
9 x 9 = 81. 9 - 1 = 8, 10 - 9 = 1. 81.

We can include Earth in that group because Earth is an Earth-like planet within the habitable zone of the star.

So in this group (4 planets in 600 lightyear radius) we have a 25% chance that a possibly habitable world will be inhabited.

That's a guarantee that aliens exist. I mean, look at all this space. Even if there's a .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent chance of life occurring, it's going to occur, and multiple times.

thinking is easy if you have concept to extrapolate.
using computers for anything complex is very hard.. b/c careful if your a linux user you will break something and or take forever to do something simple.
observation is kinda easy but kinda not.. since you can get into ur head pretty quick.. so just observe your head and write down anything that is solild and interesting (don't doodle, only write down stuff that you have a clear image of in your mind).

save your papers for later and try to remember the concepts you thought while you are sober, compare them with irl data and see if your designs/theories hold any worth.

i win this argument.

i'm even sure you didnt even read anything,
truth hurts too much for you

here's an image for you, it's impossible for us to be alone in this huge universe

the chances of a very technologically advanced civilization with interstellar travel capability to exist is very high also.

stop being so in denial.

aliens exist

deal with it

This guy on omegle is trying to convince me that the problem "1+1+1+1*0" is written incorrectly because there are no parentheses. He says "some would look at is as..... (1+1+1+1)*0."
I'm trying to convince him that that is just wrong - you're fundamentally changing the order of operations. Then he said that "the younger generation has been taught a different order of operations." I guess I'm kind of rambling now but first off - someone just validate me that this guy is talking complete bullshit, and second, are they actually teaching kids a different order of operations? Doesn't that... fuck things up pretty bad?

/sci/, tonight I would like to discuss the observable universe and perhaps gain some insight into something I know not much about.

To my understanding, the observable universe is the part of the universe that we can detect (i.e. observe), and the radius of our observational bubble is ~13.75 billion light years across. Because of this, we can estimate the age of the universe to be ~13.75 billion years.

Now, let's assume an alien observer located in a galaxy that we observe to be at the edge of our observable universe. Obviously, the alien galaxy according to the alien observer would be vastly different than from what we can detect, since what information we gather is ~13.75 billion years old. Let's also assume that as the universe expanded (from our point of view) all the galaxies around the alien's galaxy would maintain their relative positions (i.e., the alien galaxy would still be the furthest).

Would this alien observer, while observing its observable universe, see galaxies at all directions around its point of reference? If so, would our galaxy, Milky Way, be at the "edge" of this sphere? Now let's say there's a galaxy on the opposite side of the Milky Way in the alien's observable universe. Where would this galaxy be in our frame of reference?

If you understand the scope of the universe its impossible for you to think like that.

Especially since we exist.

So, I'm here to end this whole religion vs science.
If we were designed by an intelligent creator, not only we couldn't comprehend it, we could not imagine it or interpretate correctly. So all religions, representations or interpretations of god that has create humanity are false and the so called sacred encryptures are bullshit.
Ok, being all religions whiped out, if there IS an intelligent creator, it isn't cognositive, so we can't never determine if it really exist, so why bother, keep living.
But there is the possibility that we are the natural result of nature and part of the universe, still we can't never determine it, so why bother.
At the end, it is all being atheist to manmade gods and agnostic to the intelligent design.
You are welcome.
