How? Easy. Get rid of the no child left behind bullshit. The kid can't do basic functions in algebra and you pass him on to geometry and algebra 2? Of course the kid is just going to sleep in class, why should they be awake when they don't even have the prerequisite knowledge to even participate in the class? Why are we so focused on passing kids through classes when they don't have the fundamental understanding of what the class was about? I think this is a fundamental problem that doesn't get enough focus.
