Hello /sci/. Does anybody know what quantitative cell biology would entail? What would we be quantifying exactly? The reason is because it's a new course in the chemical engineering department and it looks like it could be interesting. Being new however, there is no course description yet.

Transhumanism thread?
Transhumanism thread.
What do you guys think the future of humanity will be like. Robotic, biological, or a mixture of both?

Robots aren't required to have transhumanism, the Singularity isn't the only option. Genetic engineering and biotechnology in general are moving pretty steady.

I want to be a biological organism, but not static and vulnerable like humans. I think everybody should be able to manipulate their DNA so we can completely customize our appearance and biochemistry. We should push biochemistry and genetics as far as possible to make us extremely smart and intelligent, and immortal of course. I'm into DIYbio, where in the future we can program ourselves like we program a computer today.

You can buy electrophoresis machines, and pretty much anything else. Innovations are making genetics much cheaper. I think open-source bio could be as beneficial as open-source programming was in CS. Imagine having a 3rd party genome in your body, like Linux. One that's not based off the "randomness" of evolution, but based on defined goals set by ourselves, optimized by both professionals and amateurs. It's time to take our genes into our own hands.

If you want to be furry, go for it. It's all about genetic freedom. Open-source biology has even more power than open source programming, because you are literally optimizing your genetic code. Life is awesome when you see the program of life, ready to be coded to your will.
