A question for any mathematicians:

If a theorem is similar to:
ƒ(x) - ƒ(y) ≠ ƒ(z)

Would an answer such as
ƒ(a) > ƒ(b)
be regarded as "proof"? Or does one need to prove that ƒ(b) is indeed larger than ƒ(c) in every case?
