What is happiness? How can one objectively describe a state of contentment? Is it merely the absence of sadness?

What makes you happy?

Are you happy?

I think I am at least content. Living in the First World, moderately above average intelligence, wide range of things I find entertaining. I don't necessarily have friends, but I have a place I belong.
I believe that the sense of belonging is the true source of my happiness though.
In fact, I believe it to be the only true source of happiness. Everything is second to being welcome in a place. Everything else can be achieved by the individual, except for the acceptance of others.

Molecular Biology

Recently finished my masters and now working at a biotech firm, modifying fungi to produce a fuckton of desired protein. I spend most of my time in the lab and I am really really enjoying it desu.

I personally like how with every result you get even more questions thrown back at you, living organisms are just so insanely complex. Trying to modify them to do what you want them to do tends to make them do all kinds of weird shit. It makes it even sweeter when they finally actually do what you expect/want them to do.
