Not homework, but it is a bonus problem to get a curve on a test i did poorly on. I've spent an hour on this, but just can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

The Help Me Out (HMO) curve is given by taking the square root of a grade and multiplying by
10. Determine which percentage grade bene ts the most point-wise from the HMO curve.
Hint: Let f(x) be the dierence between the curved score and the original score. Make a substitution
to convert f(x) into a quadratic function, complete the square to put it in standard quadratic form,
and nd its vertex. Then nish.

It was the exponential decay of carbon-x on a bull, when the half-life is 5,726 years. right now the dead bull only has 25% of it left. using Pe^rt, I set it up like this:
(1/2)=(1/4)e^r5,726. (1/4) representing 25% and 1/2 representing halflife.
so that comes down to ln((1/2)/(1/4))/5726 which =a rate of 0.000121.
so then I got ln(1/4)/0.000121=t
t=11457.

is this right?
