My son was suspended for racism today. At his school they have different groups for students in science, English and maths based on academic ability (divided in to 3 tiers of two classes per tier). A years intake consists of around 150 students and, in his year, there are around 40 children who are black. It was noted that only 2 of them were in the top groups.

The school is planning to make sure each group has a representative group from each race in each class. My son pointed out the absurdity of this and that it is unfair on every one to treat groups of people differently unless it's relevant. He even made a comparison to the causes Rwanda genocide they had been learning about in history.

Apparently, this constitutes racism and, as a result, some children aren't going to get to study at an appropriate level because they were born with the wrong colour skin.
