You know what would be awesome? If we lived to see the night (and day) sky lit up by a supernova blast.

Such things were observed before, like some supernova lighting up the sky for like 20 years during the 1400's or something.

I read a Time article about some star in the Eta Carinae system is due to explode or had exploded a while ago.

If the light of such event were to reach us that'd be fuckin awesome to see at night and have it stay there for a while.

I could be very wrong and just plain dumb, but can someone help me understand something real quickz?

Okay so it's said that black holes are at the center of every galaxy, having many stars orbiting around it at an extremely high velocity. I can't wrap my head around the black holes gravitational immensity, yet knowing there are stars (though distant) still orbiting it.

How do these stars manage to orbit it yet not be pulled into the event horizon? Is it just a matter of velocity?

Sorry if i sound really dumb.

Whenever i'm having a hard time with my astronomy or physics homework and i begin to feel lost in the realm of science, i look at the stars and it definitely gets my head back in the game.

anyone else know that feel?

I need some help with a physic lab /sci/
Alright I graphed v vs. F and v^2 vs. F....they both are linear.....why?
Also what does the slope represent?

Thank You

I have 2 quick Physics problems I could some help with.

A 13 kg child on a playground swing moves with a speed of 3.6 m/s when the 6.0 m long swing is at its lowest point. What is the angle that the swing makes with the vertical when the child is at the highest point?

A 1290 kg roller coaster car starts from rest at a height H = 24.0 m (see figure) above the bottom of a 15.0 m diameter loop. If friction is negligible, determine the downward force of the rails on the car when the upside-down car is at the top of the loop.
