This is only my humble opinion on the topic. I believe the high drop off rate for women in STEM is cultural or even psychological than biological. Let me explain.

I'm sure everyone here on /sci/ can unanimously agree that Calculus I is piss easy when compared to the later mathematics course you will. But recall that few people who pass precalculus and take calculus could be said to have integrated algebra and trigonometry. So Calculus is of course difficult to many, man and woman.

The reason, I feel, that woman leave is that culturally, woman have a bias to ''follow their dreams'' and ''do what they like''. Men have been told this as well but there is more pressure for men to earn money and attain a prestigious job. Calculus I is not a very fun class and I doubt most of /sci/ will disagree with me. When faced with the tedious work, men are more likely to endure this while women will feel that this isn't what they want to do as a career. And so they leave and pursue a job in say social work because it'll make them happy or so they believe.
