My bio teacher called me a homo sapiens in front of the whole class, and everybody laughed their asses off at me. I don't know how he knew, that is besides the point but is this classed as discrimination? Who do I tell about it? Thanks

Does science explain the natural world, or does it describe?

We know A happens because of B, but why does b happen? It seems an infinite regress.

Does science really explain phenomenona or does it just describe it?

For example, we know like charges repel each other. We can dig down into why like charges repel each other, but at the end of the day, it seems we've merely described what's happening, not why its happening. We know gravity exists, but why does it exist? It seems like these questions end up in an infinite regress whenever addressed from a purely scientific standpoint.

Thoughts?

Hey /sci/, I figured I'd ask you this since I'm a damned idiot when it comes to mathematics and I wasn't sure if /adv/ was the board to go to.

Let P(x) = x^4 + ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d. The graph of y = P(x) is symmetric with respect to the y-axis, has a relative max at (0,1) and has an absolute min at (q, -3).

a) Determine the values of a, b, c, and d and using these values write an expression for P(x).

b) Find all possible values of q.

How does the GDP grow (the price of all goods produced in a country in one year)? If the production output increases, doesn't the price decrease?

Why do you need math when there are calculators?
I just dont see the point.
