Please get started, I'm interested. I don't even know what you mean by external magnetic fields and whether that means from the body going out (i.e.our magnetic fields becoming external magnetic fields when outside of the body) or from the outside going in. Give me a rundown on what shielding magnetic fields do please. Also does or can the iron that we eat affect our bodies' magnetic fields? What about these other metals specially made to attract magnetic fields?
>gas giants produce a magnetic field in different ways
That confuses me as well. Is it because of the charges that exist between molecules? Gas giants don't have a molten core like the earth so they can't make magnetic fields that are similar like the ones here, do they?

I want to build a decorative Diamagnetic Leviatation device using Bismuth and Neodymium Magnets.

I've research how I can achieve this (large Neo Magnet suspended above two Bismuth plates separated by # distance, with a smaller neodymium magnet in between).

How would I find out the varying sizes and amounts of materials if I wanted a 10mm Cube or 8mm Sphere (ideally sphere if possible?) to float between two bismuth plates approximately 50 - 100mm apart?

What's the best approach to finding this out? Assume size of total apparatus should not be more than 300 - 400mm in height and the small magnet should be as visible as possible (bismuth ideally should have the smallest width or radius possible).

Essentially looking to construct something similar to this, except with a larger gap between the bismuth and a more visible small magnet:

Why would you so willingly stunt your own intellectual development? Do none of you understand how a liberal education is supposed to work?

I can't stand the troglodytes in my classes who take pride in being so woefully ignorant of everything outside their field. Good job being too stupid to understand multiple fields of study, I guess?

Is there a theory in cosmology which states that there's a constant Big Bang and Big Crunch cycle, and that all the cycles are identical - that is, the universe evolves identically each time?
So that consequently, upon dying, we will be reborn and live the same life, and then die again, and so on?

Hey, /sci/

Something has been bothering me for a long time. I'm studying to be an EE, but I don't truly understand magnetism. Yes, I know the laws (Ampères law, Gauss' law, Maxwells equations, you name it). But I don't truly get where the magnetic field comes from. What IS a north pole and a south pole phyiscallly? How do electrons move in them and why do electrons passing them by deflect in a certain manner instead of another?

Thanks in advance /sci/
