What would your response be?

Should 'scientist' be a protected title, reserved only for those with a research dedicated PhD? Many other professions have protected titles, like medical doctors and attorneys at law.

I think this would greatly reduce the number of pseudoscientists that are taken seriously if people who aren't actually qualified scientists cannot call themselves that. As an example, Ken Ham only has a bachelors of applied biology, yet he seems to think his 'science' is on par with actual science.

Are there any drawbacks if this were to be implemented? Are there alternatives?

Ignore them OP, they do not see that people like you and me are enlightened humans, blissfully unaware that we allow them to back in the glory of our intelligence.
