Not to be condescending, but read The Number Devil. If you want an understanding of elements and comprehension of how numbers work within the problems and dance about the equal sign as they balance themselves according to the fundamentals of arithmetic, read a book that colorfully explains how that works.
Trust me, I love this book. I will be reading this book to my kids. Don't think "Hey, I'm 20+ I should be reading ADULT books." Go back and explore the way a child explores. Use the imagination so many leave behind in favor of a driver's license and a pay check.
