In statistics what exactly is variance measuring? I get that bigger number = more spread out data points, but what exactly does a '6' or a '9' mean? Is it merely relative to other variances, or does a six represent the average distances between values or some shit?

Is depression an actual disease or is it just bullshit made up by psychologists to make money?

C+, B-, C+, C

These are my grades for a group of essays for Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience.

96%, 91%, 94%, 89%

Those are my grades for exams in those subjects (two psych, one behavioral neuro) and the third was an assignment that did not require research (answering question from our own knowledge pool).

I am at or a tad below class average for essays, but well and truly above average for exams/tests/actually having and understanding the knowledge (exam averages were between 65-75% depending on the class).

Why is this? Why can't I write a good essay? I get hardly any feedback and they seem pretty decent overall. I understand the material better than most but I just can't an essay, and essay writing is as (if not more).

Let's say a child was born and grew up to be an adult completely deprived of senses. Their brain was healthy, but all their external points for information where broken (eyes, nose, etc.) in a way that absolutely nothing could be felt (not even their internal organs, pain, etc.).

Would they think, at all? Would they have emotions?

My simple mnemonics trainer, how would you improve it?

Also how far are you guys actually willing to memorise Pi, it'd take years to outdo the top five asians and eventually it'd mean nothing. Maybe I should go for the square root of two, ideas suggestions?
