/sci/, I've got a few questions, they don't look too difficult, but still I don't know how to answer them.

Here goes the first:

You have a tree, and you want to make a hole on some part of one of it's horizontal branches, so that the risk of it breaking, diminishes. You must decide in which of these three points to make the perforation.
Point A is on the upper part of the branch, point B is in the middle of the cross section of the branch, right down point A, and point C is on the lower part of the branch, right down point B.
In which of these points should you make the perforation and why?
I know that if we consider the three branch to be like a beam, (which is what I know we are supposed to do to answer this question) we know that it's horizontal cross-section right in the middle is the neutral axis, but exactly why should we do the perforation there or elsewhere?
Excuse me if I'm not clear enough, I'm not used to typing in english.
